SELF-SUPPORTING SHELTER

A first experiment on the the use of different uses of natural cork in architecture, exploring the way simple units can be joined together in different configurations to create a simple shelter. In this example we tested the shape of the tetrahedron with connections on each of its sides but other polyhedra could be considered.

CORK CLADDING PANNELS

An exploration of a very simple design idea, consisting of a fabricated cork panel that is recursively applied in a grid fashion and with different orientations. The panels could be arranged for allowing light to come through them making them ideal for sun light control on existing facades. A prototype was built for proof of concept to show that these panels could be applied even in facades with complex shapes.
