CASCAIS SHOPPING SITTING AREA

2015

Cascais, Portugal

This latest contract work from SONAE Sierra was for a small sitting area that was to be installed at one of the corridors of Cascais Shopping center. The client requested photo montages of the temporary installation for which they provided the model and photos from the site. I was then responsible for preparing the model for rendering (camera adjusting, producing texture maps, texturing and lightning), rendering and producing the photo-merges. Merging the renders onto the photos was particularly challenging considering the site was, at the moment that the photos were taken, occupied with another installation. I therefore had to work the photos extensively in order to mask and hide any undesired elements and only then merge the renders.

PARK LAKE

2014

Bucharest, Romania

In 2014 I had the opportunity to collaborate with SONAE Sierra to produce a 3D model and animation of a project they were working on. The project was for a shopping mall to be built in Bucharest, Romania and they requested me to create a 3D model of one of the entrance areas. The client was particularly interested in showing a number of features they were going to implement in the project, namely the water elements of the façade and the inside hall.

This project involved modelling the entrance and parts of the inside and then producing a flythrough animation of said model. The model was created and textured in SketchUp and the animation was programmed and executed in Unity3D. Rendering the animation in 3Ds Max, as initially planned, would have taken too long and the model didn’t have enough detail that justified that endeavour. I thus decided to use a game engine which allowed me to produce a much faster animation and still have the features the client wanted. Game engines are well equipped with texturing tools, particle generators and scripting tools, not to mention they allow a much more interactive experience when working with an architecture project. At the end, the client not only got the animation they requested but also an interactive model that they could explore and experiment on.
